Phos-clear is for the management of phosphatemia or increased serum phosphorus levels in dogs and cats suffering from chronic kidney disease or CKD. Persistent hyperphosphatemia along with calcitriol deficiency leads to secondary hyperparathyroidism. Phos-clear helps to control hyperphosphatemia by reducing phosphorus absorption from the intestine hence plays its part in controlling the development of secondary hyperparathyroidism.

Calcitriol deficiency leads to negative feedback on the parathyroid gland and persistent hyperphosphatemia leads to hypocalcemia; both result in continuous stimulation of the parathyroid gland and secondary hyperparathyroidism.
